Its done. That was hard: it snowed which didnt help and in the UK that means chaos until it goes.
Anyhow its now with my book mentors and I await responses. It has been a dark journey, ending in a consideration of the abortion of one twin and multifetal pregnancy reduction. ( To reduce the number of foetuses in a multiple pregnancy by aborting some of them.) No one has considered the possible psychological impact on the survivors, if any, because no one knows about this womb twin work and no one believes it matters if a twin or multiple dies early in pregnancy. ( Except for the survivors themselves)
They use potasssium chloride to kill these unwanted superfluous fetuses. An injection into the foetal heart muscle, guided by ultrasound scans. A lethal dose causes heart failure. They use it for capital punishment by lethal injection in some parts of the USA. They use it in Switzerland for people who want to inject themselves to death.
I'm glad to have got that chapter over. It makes tough reading and some bits were horrible to write. Not too many womb twin survivors of MFPR yet over the age of 5 or so, its quite new as a form of abortion, so this is a problem waiting for the therapists of the future to deal with.
I am trying to keep this book simple and accessible but I dont find much to be lighthearted about just now. Maybe later on, when we get to the part on healing for womb twin survivors.
When a twin dies before birth, the sole survivor needs help and understanding. Womb twin survivors are the sole survivors of a twin or multiple pregnancy. This group, 1 in 10 of the population, includes survivors of a stillbirth, miscarriage, abortion and a "vanishing twin" pregnancy. It is a story of a twin bond broken by death, leaving a lonely survivor.
