It is from the Greek word katastrophḗ which means "overturning". When a catastrophe occurs, the world turns upside down and nothing is certain any more. Furthermore there is no possibility of restoring the state of things that pertained before the catastrophe occurred.

A catastrophic failure is a sudden and total failure of some system from which recovery is impossible. Catastrophic failures often lead to cascading systems failure.
In your Dream of the Womb your womb twin is increasingly unable to survive. The bodily systems are failing and inevitable death must ensue as a result. And there is no way back.

If we live out the Dream with a perpetual sense of approaching catastrophe, then we must be nervous, negative, timid and fearful. We may realise that we are catastrophizing, and wonder why.
Catastrophizing is an irrational thought a lot of us have in believing that something is far worse than it actually is. Catastrophizing can generally can take two forms.
The first of these is making a catastrophe out of a situation. For instance, if you’re a salesperson and haven’t made a sale in awhile, you may believe you are a complete and utter failure and you will lose your job. In reality, it may only be a temporary situation, and there are things that you can do to change this situation. Another example is believing that if you make one small mistake at your job, you may get fired. This kind of
Catastrophizing takes a current situation and gives it a truly negative “spin.”
The second kind of Catastrophizing is closely linked to the first, but it is more mental and more future oriented. This kind of Catastrophizing occurs when we look to the future and anticipate all the things that are going to go wrong. We then create a reality around those thoughts (e.g. “It’s bound to all go wrong for me…”). Because we believe something will go wrong, we make it go wrong.
When we awaken from the Dream we can know that a real catastrophe did indeed occur, long ago, but it is over. Now we can be open to the antonym and be able to experience benefit, blessing, favor, good fortune, good luck, happiness, miracle, success and wonder.
Falling prey to Catastrophizing is like striking out in your mind before you even get to the plate. Both of these types of Catastrophizing limit your opportunities in life, work, relationships and more. It can affect our entire outlook in life, and create a self-fulfilling prophecy of failure, disappointment and underachievement.
